Earlier this week, Georgia hosted the first annual US-India Business Summit in Atlanta. The goal of the summit was to deepen the existing ties between Georgia and India and expand bilateral opportunities. In his welcome remarks, Governor Sonny Perdue touted Georgia’s strategic assets, including the Centers of Innovation program. In other ag-related news, Gov. Perdue recently appointed Shay Bentley-Griffin to the Governor’s Agricultural Advisory Commission. The commission brings together members of various sectors within the agriculture community to act as a sounding board for economic development ideas and to implement the Governor’s strategies and initiatives.
On May 17, Smith will present East Jackson Elementary School in Commerce, Georgia, with the sixth annual Agriculture Awareness Week Observance Award, which was initiated by the Governor’s Agriculture Advisory Committee. The award recognizes teachers for their use of innovative techniques to assist students in learning about Georgia agriculture during Agriculture Awareness Week in March.
